Dig it
You know planting if you know how to dig a hole. Sounds light, but it's true.
Throwing in some seeds or planting some sapling is neither a big deal, not it will take much effort.
You have to give effort in digging the hole.
You need to chose the time - it shouldn't be in the middle of the monsoon. The soil will be all mushy clay.
The soil has to be dug and made powdery before you put them back in

Feed the soil
Yes, its the soil that feeds your plants. So, feed the soil.
Amateurs, don't go for chemical fertilizers. You might destroy the plant, as I have.
What do you do with vegetable waste? Soaked and used tea leaves? Banana peels? Through them in a shallow hole in the garden. Turn them once a week. If possible, add some grass or hay clippings. Instead of a hole, you can use a wooden carton box: like the ones used for carrying fruits.
It's better if you chop the matters before throwing in.
Think you are cooking some nutritious food for the soil.
Yes, turn them once in a while. Keep them moist.
Continue for couple of months. It will be ready to use. Just add it to your plants.
Empty and reuse the box or take another box.
It's fun.

Take a shot at the pot : Container
No need to go to the garden and toil out with the soil. Take a pot or any container with a hole below it. (water drainage). Fill up with a handful of soil, with generous amount of compost. Plant a seedling or a seed or two. Water lightly twice a day. Keep it in the sun. Watch the fun.
